A biotech startup in the sizzling field of RNA-interference says its technology has opened a "second doorway" that offers a different method of silencing disease-causing genes from competitors such as Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Dicerna, Startup Based on RNAi Biology, Licenses IP from City of Hope and Closes $13 Million Series A Financing
Dicerna Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (www.dicerna.com) a startup in the RNA interference field, announced today that it has licensed broadly enabling intellectual property from City of Hope in Duarte, California. Dicerna was founded to pursue drug discovery and development in multiple therapeutic areas based on Dicer substrate technology discovered by Dicerna co-founders John Rossi, Ph.D., the Lidow Family Research Chair and Professor, Division of Molecular Biology and Dean, Graduate School of Biological Sciences at City of Hope’s Beckman Research Institute, and Mark Behlke, M.D., Ph.D., at Integrated DNA Technologies in Coralville, Iowa.
Dicerna also announced that they have closed a $13 million Series A financing, led by Oxford Bioscience Partners and Skyline Ventures. Doug Fambrough, Ph.D., of Oxford Bioscience Partners, who is a co-founder of the company, is acting as Chairman, and Stephen Hoffman, M.D., Ph.D., of Skyline Ventures is joining the board of the company as part of the financing.
